Snow, finally!!

We finally had a snow day yesterday. It wasn’t much but the kids (ok, Marty and I too) had a blast playing in it. Yesterday when Andrew woke up and looked out the window, I asked him what it was and he said “I don’t know” I guess he doesn’t remember the snow from last year. We didn’t have enough to build a snowman but we had a pretty good snowball fight. It was such a great day with hot chocolate in the morning and warm chocolate chip cookies after lunch. I am so glad I got to enjoy it with them.

He loves his ranch

I’m talking about Andrew and no I’m not talking about a ranch with horses and cows, although I’m sure he would love that too. I’m talking about the ranch dressing that comes out of a bottle and is used on salads. Well, Andrew has other ideas for his ranch dressing and they don’t stop at the salad. He loves ranch dressing and will dip anything into it. It started out with french fries (ok, I admit that I do this too) But he gets a little gross from here; he will dip apple slices into ranch dressing. I even had a cup of caramel sauce and he chose the ranch. Last night he asked for ranch to dip his hot dog in. I guess what ever floats his boat!

Rocky

Andrew got in a fight with a desk and the desk won. Ok, so I guess I should explain the picture (this is the second non Wordless Wednesday in a row) I was at the gym last night and the kids were in the playroom playing, which they love to do and I hope that continues. One of the playroom workers comes and finds me and tells me that Andrew has a nasty cut at his eye. I walked into the room and another worker was holding him. She had his face shielded and she looked straight at me and said, it’s bad. What a terrible feeling when someone is holding your baby and telling you that it’s bad. He wasn’t crying so I knew it must not be too bad, well so I thought. It was bad, but I think all the blood and the blue goose egg didn’t help and made it look worse. For some reason I just don’t freak out when things like this happen, thankfully. I packed up the kids and we went to the hotel to see daddy, I needed his opinion because I didn’t know if we should take him to the ER. We couldn’t get it to stop bleeding so we decided to go ahead and take him to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Us and half of Nashville were there, gotta love flu season. On a side note, I just pray that we didn’t make it worse by being in a flu filled hospital. They moved us from room to room and 4 hours later we were able to leave and Andrew is now sporting a single stitch. It was just a little too big and too close to the eye to do nothing, they were afraid it would keep opening if we didn’t put a stitch in it. We got home at 12:20 am and thankfully Abby fell asleep in Marty’s arm at about 10:00. Andrew on the other hand stayed awake the whole time. Needless to say, he slept in until 9:45 this morning. Poor baby boy!

Sniff, Sniff

For the first time in 5 and a half years, we are going to be diaper free. My baby boy is completly potty trained, even at night. Can I cry now? For about a month now Andrew has been keeping his diaper dry at night but we were going to wait until we ran out of diapers and then just not buy any more. Well, Andrew had other plans. Last night he woke me up at 1:15 because he had to go potty. He wanted to get up and go on the potty not in his diaper. I think that's our hint that it's safe to put him in big boy undies. I'm still there.

I am sorry to dwell on Tuesday’s tornados but I am still so thankful that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. We had angels all around us that night. This is an excerpt from a news station article that just shows how lucky we were:

Here in Middle Tennessee it was primarily one storm that did most of the major damage. On the time lapse, you will see this supercell start in Hardin County (it actually began in Mississippi) and move northeast through parts of Wayne, Perry, Lewis, Hickman, northwest Williamson (Fairview), Davidson, Sumner, Trousdale, and Macon before moving into Kentucky. The miracle is that the tornado lifted up over Nashville and Davidson County before setting down again in Sumner County. If that had not happened, hundreds more could have died or been injured. This was a terrible tragedy that could have been worse.

The one storm that did the most damage was the one we were at Opryland for. It makes you wonder; why were we spared? What ever the reason, I am thankful and praise God for it.A side note that I forgot to mention yesterday. When I got Abby out of bed Tuesday night to go over to the hotel, she told me that when she heard the thunder she prayed to God and asked Him to keep her safe. I love it

Wow

Just wow! I know today is supposed to be Wordless Wednesday but I just couldn’t be wordless after the craziness of last night. Last night was scary night weather wise and I am just thankful that we are all safe this morning. At about 9:00 last night Marty called from work and told me to get the kids out of bed and head over to the Opryland Hotel. As I was on the phone with Marty, a friend called and asked if we were going over to the hotel. I told her yes and she said that they were going to come with us. I put Prince in our closet, it was absolutely heartbreaking to leave him at home (he paid us back by peeing everywhere in our closet but we quickly forgave him). We were at the hotel for about 10 minutes and they come over the loud speaker telling everyone that a tornado warning had been issued for Davidson County, the first of many, and for everyone to head to a stairwell and from there to the underground tunnels. This was the exact reason we went to the Opryland Hotel. There is a city underground and the hotel could run off of generators if we lost power. We were in the tunnels for about 45 minutes; the kids had a blast and thought it was a lot of fun, the parents not so much. We were contemplating splitting a room with our friends for the night because the worst was yet to come but decided to go home and keep a close eye on the weather. We put the kids in our bed, it was so sweet seeing them snuggled up next to each other, and Marty and I settled in for the night on an air mattress on the floor in the living room. The news was saying that we had about an hour and a half before the next storm was to come through and it was supposed to be a big one. We went so far as to take the mirror off the wall in the bathroom in case we had to leave Prince again. A tornado warning was once again issued for Davidson County but watching the tracker it was going to go just north of us. That storm wasn’t so bad and the warning expired. Then comes tornado warning number 3, all in the span of about 4 hours. I was ready for the night to be over with. This storm was going to go just south of us. So thankfully we didn’t have to wake the kids up again and head to the hotel. Storm number 3 brought some pretty bad thunder and lightening. We turn the TV off at 2:30 and at 2:40 both the kids appear in the living room and join us on the air mattress. At about 3:00 it was pretty much over so we put the kids in their own beds and went to our own. Poor Andrew called twice and after checking on him both times he finally went to sleep. Marty and I had already decided that we were going to let the kids sleep until they woke up. Well, 8:30 comes (an hour and a half after Abby’s school had already started) and they were both still asleep. This is a huge thing because Abby never sleeps past 7:00, poor punky was exhausted. Needless to say I took her to school at 9:30.
Sometimes it really stinks being a grown up.

Oh my!!

Did everyone watch and enjoy the Superbowl? We decided last minute to have a party at our house and our house will never be the same. I borrowed a projector and 7 foot screen from my office and we put it out in the garage, aka the man room, (thankfully it was warm over the weekend) so we could watch the big game on a big screen. We had 8 adults and 8 kids, 4 more adults and 2 kids cancelled last minute. Thank goodness! The food was good, the company was good, the mess was unbelievable. The kids played upstairs the whole night and I have never in my entire life seen such a mess. I can’t even describe it. The crazy thing is that Marty and I had even out away the games with lots of pieces, the polly pockets and some puzzles. I guess we missed a few puzzles because there were random pieces found in every room upstairs. There were even play butterflies floating in the toilet. Oh my, it was such a mess. It took Marty and Andrew the better part of yesterday to get it cleaned. Have I told you how much I love my husband? Poor Marty had to get on line to see what furniture goes with what room for Abby’s doll house. It was so cute though. When I got home I went upstairs to see the clean wonderfulness of it and saw that Marty had put the babies from the doll house in their high chairs. The animals were all in their beds. The mom and dad were sitting on the couch and the little girl was in her room. I think Marty might have been playing house while he was cleaning yesterday.
It was a great time but I am not offering my house up for any parties any time soon.

Out of the mouth of babes

So this morning while Abby and I were eating breakfast she told me what she really wanted. She said “Mommy I really want you to have another baby” After I almost spit out my food I tried to rationalize with her and I spoke the most profound words ever:
“WHAT?!? Abby you don’t even get along with the brother that you have, why would I want to have another one?”
She then told me that she wants me to have a girl baby and maybe she would get along with her. The key words are girl and maybe. Nothing is a guarantee. Sorry punky but your mommy isn’t having any more babies. You can beg, plead and promise to get along with her but it still won’t work. I should have told her to show me that she can get along with Andrew and then I would think about having another baby. But that would just be wrong, I guess.

The Circus is Coming to Town

Well, more correctly, the circus came to town and we were there to see it. Last year I took the kids by my self because Marty was in Ohio, this year he got to experience it with us. And boy was it an experience. I love the circus all of it; the popcorn, the clowns, the cotton candy. Let me tell you about the cotton candy. So we all know that cotton candy is only sugar. Well, we must have had the golden sugar or something because a bag of the sugared gold (ok so it came with a hat also) was $12.00. Yes, you read that right and yes we got some. We are such suckers!! The kids had a blast and so did all the parents. We went with 2 other couples and their kids and I’m not sure who enjoyed it more.

Like Father Like Son

Andrew was so cute yesterday at church. I always go get the kids during the invitation because they like to hear the music and they feel included. The service we go to is contemporary and has a band instead of an orchestra/choir. The music was really upbeat yesterday and Andrew and I were singing (me more than him but he likes to try) Andrew looked me just as serious as he could and said “Mommy, I wish I would have brought my guitar” It was precious, he wanted to be on stage playing his guitar with the rest of the band. He truly believed that had he had his guitar he could have been up there playing away. A few minutes later he said “I wish daddy bring his drums too and we play together” Watch out world Andrew has aspirations, even at the tender age of 2.

Little girls can be so not nice.

I will start this post by saying that I know my little girl has had her not so nice moments. But I saw something the other day that broke my heart. I was walking Abby into school one morning last week and I saw a girl in her class (here forth named C). Abby didn’t notice her thankfully but C gave Abby the dirtiest meanest look I have ever seen. Believe me I have seen many, ok so I have even given a few in my day. I had to look around to see if the look was intended for anyone else, but no one was near. Later in the day I asked Abby if she and C play together. She said “no, C only plays with B” (another girl in their class) I then asked if she and C were friends and she again told me no, then she said that C wasn’t nice to her sometimes. Really, it’s already starting? Aren’t they too little for this? I know the answer to that but I am not ready for the heartbreak I’m sure will come Abby’s way someday. Why can’t everyone just get along?

On a sweet note, there’s a little boy in Abby’s class that has a crush on her (I mean hey, why wouldn’t he). I was talking to his mom this morning and told her that Abby will be at his birthday party this weekend. The whole class was invited but she told me that he didn’t want to invite anyone else to his party, only Abby. She would name off names and he would say, no only Abby. Even if we did have other plans, I would rearrange them to make sure Abby was at his party, it’s obviously important to him.

Andrew's boo-boo

Andrew told Marty that his boo-boo was all gone from his hand. Marty asked where it went and Andrew said matter of factly:
God took it away.

Melts my heart.

Fiddler

Marty's playing with a guy tonight named Fiddler. Seriously, only in Nashville.
